Naseer Ahmad Faiq, Chargé d’Affaires of Afghanistan Permanent Mission to the United Nations, says that the Taliban’s denial of girls’ education is a “national betrayal”.
He tweeted today (Monday, 19, Sep): “Depriving girls of continuing their education is an injustice to the future of a country and a national betrayal.”
He added, “Afghanistan is the only country in the world whose schools are closed to girls; A country that needs humanitarian aid and needs educated human resources to get rid of poverty and achieve self-sufficiency and progress.”
Today, it marks one year and one day that girls above the sixth grade are not allowed to go to school by order of the Taliban.
According to United Nations statistics, more than one million girls in Afghanistan have been denied access to education in the past year.
The Taliban issued an order banning the education of girls above the 6th grade on 18, Sep 2021 and despite the repeated requests of the Afghan people and the international community, they are still unwilling to reopen girls’ schools.
