UNICEF: For Us, Today’s Heroes Are the Young Afghan Female Teachers

UNICEF office in Afghanistan says today’s heroes are young Afghan female teachers who remain hopeful despite the challenges.

Today (Wednesday, 5, Oct) on the occasion of “World Teacher’s Day”, this organization tweeted that “being a teacher is not an easy vocation anywhere, in Afghanistan even more so”

UNICEF quoted Gulsoom, a 25-year-old Afghan teacher, as saying: “I want to serve the children of Afghanistan because they are the basis of a strong Afghanistan.”

She added that when she was a student, one of her teachers opened her mind to possibilities that she didn’t even know existed.

UNICEF has said that it congratulates 200,000 teachers in Afghanistan on International Teacher’s Day.

This year, International Teacher’s Day is being celebrated while the Taliban group has imposed severe restrictions on Afghan women, and these restrictions have also affected the lives and careers of female teachers.

At the same time, it has been 381 days that the Taliban group has not allowed more than one million female students above the sixth grade to access school and education.
